Traceability
Every credit traces back to a named farmer and a mapped plot.
We start in the field. Farmers record every step of the work in our digital measurement, reporting and verification (dMRV) system at the moment it happens. For each program, we collect household data on every farmer and roll it up to the cluster, a group of 105 to 150 farming families. From field to household to farmer to cluster, we trace every number.
Data points
Here are the numbers

How each data point is recorded, stored and verified
Recorded in the field
The biomass, the temperature, the GPS points and the photos of every cook are logged in Planboo, our dMRV app.
Stored with its batch
Each reading is bound to the batch that it belongs to.
Tested by an independent lab
The biochar is measured off the farm, including total carbon and the H:C ratio, which determines its permanence.
Audited by an accredited VVB
An accredited validation and verification body checks the batch against the standard before anything is issued.
Issued on a public registry
The credit is issued on a public registry with its ID.
An app built for our farmers
We wanted our farmers to see their own progress, so we built the Cirkular App for them. It shows each farmer their progress and a summary of their metrics, carries training and information for growers, gives them a direct channel for questions and complaints, and runs our referral program for coffee growers. Let’s follow batch 041 through its journey.
