Farmer stories and testimonials

We’ve onboarded 762 families across Colombia: here are four of their stories

Every figure is the family’s own record in our biochar program.

Now in their own words

Jose Alfazar

For 15 years, Jose left his coffee prunings between the field rows because he had nowhere else to put them. He noticed that this increased pest and disease pressure, including root mealybug and root rot which cost him planting space. After four years in the Cirkular biochar program, he has realized biochar’s benefits.

“They used to tell me I had to bring technology into the field. I never believed it. Now I do.”

Gina Paola

Gina joined the Cirkular program after attending one of our grower meetings in her vereda. She signed up immediately, realizing her prunings could be worth much more.

“Sometimes you have something right there and you don’t know it’s a treasure, and because you don’t know, you throw it away.”

Ancisar and Clara

Ancisar and Clara have run this farm together for decades. The day-to-day tasks are still shared between them even after 39 years of marriage. Despite their age, they see the vision of what biochar can bring and want to build it with Cirkular as a partner.

“They told us about the wood. Instead of just piling it up, we could use it another way. You see another path, and you want to learn more.”
